Atlantic City, New Jersey is world famous for being one of the most exciting and prestigious places to play Poker. There are many poker rooms, offering games and tournaments at all levels, from low limit games at the Trump Taj Mahal to high stakes games at The Borgata. Whichever your preferred poker game is, whether Texas Hold'em, Omaha, Seven Card Stud or even Pai Gow, there is a poker room to suit you.
The tournaments take place all year round, and the listings are widely available. The action tends to centre on the Boardwalk and Marina areas, but other rooms can be found outside of this region in the city who's slogan is "Always turned on!"
Ballys Park Place Casino (609) 340-2000: Billy's Poker Parlour has 20 tables available, with fifteen offering games of Texas Hold'em and 5 offering 5 Card Stud. Low-level games are available daily, in addition to No Limit Texas Hold'em tournaments being held twice a week at a buy in of $60 (plus $15 registration fee). In Bally's Wild Wild West Poker Pit there are ten new tables, all non-smoking. There are games of Texas Hold'em and Seven Card Stud, with No Limit tournaments taking place twice a week. The Pit also has "sit and go" tournaments held daily from 10am to Midnight at a $50 buy in (plus $15 registration fee.)
Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa (609) 317 1000: This is relatively new venue, having only opened in July 2003 and is luxurious and elegant in furnishing and style. The Borgata has played host to the annual Borgata Poker Open as well as stars like Ben Affleck. The poker room has 30+ tables with Texas Hold'em, Seven Card Stud and Omaha games available. A Texas Hold'em tournament is held from Monday to Friday with a buy-in from £20 to $200. There is also a high limit section offering larger spreads.
Harrahs Atlantic City (609) 441 5000: This is the current host to the World Series of Poker tournament and is therefore very well known, and has even been voted as having "Best Poker Tournaments" by the readers of Casino Player Magazine. There are 28 Poker tables, and players can earn comps through playing. There are many low level games available to new comers and tournament games take place every Tuesday and Saturday.
Resorts Atlantic City: This is a new poker room that opened in May 2005 and has nine tables offering Texas Hold'em and Seven Card Stud. Tournaments are held twice weekly.
The Sands Casino (609) 441 4000: this non-smoking poker room is located on the fourth floor of the casino, has 15 tables and a beverage service. A new poker room on the main casino floor opened in December 2005. No Limit Texas Hold'em tournaments are held throughout the week with a range of buy-ins from $20 to $150.
The Showboat Casino (609)343 4000: This is one of the newest poker rooms in Atlantic City, with a stylish House of Blues décor and 25 new tables. The Showboat is owned by Harrahs and has a tableside food and drink service. Texas Hold'em tournaments start on Sundays and take place through to Thursdays.
The Tropicana Casino and Resort (800) 843 8767: there are 43 poker tables at the Tropicano, offering Texas Hold'em, Seven Card Stud and Omaha poker, with the added bonus of sports events being screened on monitors that are visible from every seat. There are Texas Hold'em tournaments every day of the week with buy ins ranging from $20 to $50.
The Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort (609) 449 1000: This is probably one of the biggest and most famous poker rooms in Atlantic City, and was the first Poker room to become non-smoking. There are over 70 poker tables, dealing Texas Hold'em, Omaha and Seven Card Stud, as well as Hi-Lo games and many other variations. There are a huge range of spreads, from $1 to $600, especially at the weekends. There are daily tournaments, with No Limit Texas Hold'em games with buy ins of up to $300. The poker room offers poker lessons for beginners, or for those wishing to improve and also hosts the annual Trump US Tournament Poker Championship.
