Poker Player - Hoyt Corkins

Hoyt Corkins was born and raised in rural Glenwood, Alabama he lives with his girlfriend and has two residences, one in Alabama and the other in Las Vegas. He started playing poker at the age of nineteen when he began receiving lessons from his father and participated in his fathers games in order to observe, this is when he picked up his fathers style of 'no fear' playing. Hoyt took the knowledge that he had gained from his father to enter the 1992, World Series of Poker Championship in the $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha he finished in first place winning a gold bracelet and $96,000, in total he finished seven times in the money, the style of play he had learned from his father and his keen observation became a recipe for success. After his 1992 win Hoyt returned to Alabama to raise cattle, after the he went through a divorce, Hoyt did not return to poker for eleven years until he received encouragement to return to poker from his fiancée Natalie, he returned in 2003.
When he returned to poker he concentrated on the major tournaments such as the World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker. In November 2003 he found himself in the Foxwoods World Poker Finals No Limit-Hold'em World Poker Tour Event, finishing in first place with a record breaking prize win of $1,089,200, it was clear that Hoyt had burst back onto the poker scene with a vengeance being quick to re-establish himself as an elite poker professional. Hoyt also raised a few eyebrows at Foxwoods begin given the nickname of "Mr All-In" by third place finisher Phil Hellmuth which was intended to be a put down but Hoyt never uttered a bitter word back he simply believed that he had the better cards on the day, he also doesn't object to the name. Hoyt also has a number of other nicknames such as the "Cowboy" which reflects his image at the table as he as he always wears a black cowboy hat and boots to every poker event. Hoyt plays poker in a fast, aggressive manner he likes to intimidate his opponents with his loose play so the "Alabama Cowboy" appearance helps to convey the intimidating image, other nicknames include, the "West world Cowboy" given to him by Vince Van Patten, as well as many players referring to him as "Nightmare." Hoyt's fellow competitors describe him as "soft spoken laid back and humble", while Hoyt's describes himself as low-key and reserved.
With Hoyt's aggressive style he soon found himself at another final table, this time at the Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure ion early 2004, Hoyt finished in second place behind Gus Hansen winning $290,065. Hoyt also has other major accomplishments in the poker world tournaments including the 2004 United States of Poker Championship finishing in 3rd place winning $181,390, the 2005 Bay 101 Shooting Stars of Poker finishing in 6th place earning $25,000 and the 2005 World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions finishing in 2nd place winning $325,000.
As well as poker Hoyt also raises a sixty head of cattle at his farm in Glenwood and also does poker speaking at corporate events and personal appearance organized by his agent Poker Royalty.
