Poker Player - Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen was born on the 13th February 1973, in the Danish capital of Copenhagen where he still resides, he also has a residence in Monte Carlo. During his childhood Gus would play games such as Backgammon and would soon reach world class playing status, then in his twenties Gus decided that the Danish backgammon market wasn't challenging enough to hold him so he took his money and purchased a ticket to the United States of America were he ended up in Santa Cruz, California. While there Gus began to play in the various card rooms around Santa Cruz, instead of his usual game of Backgammon Gus began to play and pick up on various different types of poker. While building on his game he soon discovered that his somewhat erratic method of play was working to his advantage and he soon became known as an unpredictable player as well as an incredibly aggressive bluffer.
As Gus began to establish himself among the other poker players a letter came from the Danish Military Service and Gus was obliged to return to Denmark and leave poker behind, he served as a civil servant until he had completed all his duties. Gus returned to America and found that he had once again returned to his roots playing Backgammon and Gin on the streets of New York. Gus again built his confidence and felt that both this and his gambling skills would eventually make him a professional, so he picked back up on poker and in particular Texas Hold'em as the strength of the game grew in the nineties, Gus found himself playing cash games in every corner of New York.
Gus soon earned the respect of all the worlds top poker players for his super intellect and his unmistakable abilities on poker earning himself the nickname 'The Great Dane', also becoming one of the players that you would least likely to face, however he was also one of the most entertaining players to watch. In 2002 Gus had his debut for the first time in a major tournament playing Texas Hold'em in the Five-Diamond World Poker Classic, World Poker Tour at the Bellagio casino. A total of 147 players entered with Gus coming out on top winning the tournament and earning himself over half a million dollars. Gus has made it to four World Poker Tour final tables and has won three of them, scoring close to $1.5 million in the process.Gus was a founding partner of the online poker site PokerChamps.com, which was later sold out to a British company called Betfair, he is also featured as one of the advance game experts in the All-In DVD series, while also speaking at corporate events as well as doing public appearances organized by Gus's poker agent Poker Royalty.
Gus has a vast number of major poker achievements to date these include, the May 2002, $10,000 World Poker Tour Five Diamond World Poker Classic coming in 1st place earning $526,460, the February 2003, $10,000 World Poker Tour Los Angeles Poker Classic also coming in 1st place earning $532,490, the December 2003, $10,000 World Poker Tour Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic leaving the tournament in 3rd place earning $276,426, the January 2004, $7,500 World Poker Tour, Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure again in 1st place winning $455,780, the February 2005, $400,000 Poker Superstars Invitational Grand Final in 1st place winning $1,000,000, the March 2005, $10,000 World Poker Tour Bay 101 Shooting Stars leaving in 3rd place earning $320,000, the September 2005, £ 4,000 EPT Main Event - No Limit Hold'em leaving in 5th place winning $96,712 and the October 2005, $10,000 2nd Annual Doyle Brunson North American Championship coming in at 21st place earning $20,690.
